How to Tame Parrot
How to tame Parrot in Tides of Fortune — Alpha hunt affinity, treasure cache method, supply drop missions, and Treasure Tracker shoulder pet setup.
Before You Start
Parrot taming requires the Tides of Fortune DLC and active gameplay for affinity building. Unlike passive feeding tames, Parrot gains affinity through Alpha creature hunts, Treasure Cache excavations, and supply drop mission completions near the wild Parrot.
Prepare combat gear for Alpha hunts — the fastest affinity method. Assault Rifles, Pump-Action Shotguns, or strong carnivore tames dispatch Alphas quickly. Also carry a Shovel and Treasure Map Bottles for the cache excavation method.
Locate Parrot spawns in coastal and jungle areas within Tides of Fortune zones. Parrots are visible birds perched in trees or flying near beaches.
Step 1: Choose Your Taming Method
Method A — Alpha Hunts (fastest): Kill Alpha-tier creatures near the wild Parrot. Each Alpha kill builds significant affinity. Bring heavy firepower and expect 5-10 Alpha kills for completion.
Method B — Treasure Caches (dual-purpose): Dig up Buried Treasure Caches from Treasure Maps near the Parrot. Each cache discovery builds affinity while providing loot profit. See treasure guide.
Method C — Supply Drops (steady): Complete map missions and collect end-of-mission supply crates near the Parrot. Slower but requires no combat risk.
Step 2: Build Affinity
Execute your chosen method repeatedly near the wild Parrot. Stay within proximity range during activities — distance reduces affinity gain. Monitor taming progress through the standard ARK taming interface.
Alpha hunt method: scout for Alpha spawns near the Parrot, kill efficiently, return to Parrot proximity, repeat. Keep the Parrot safe during fights — its low health means stray shots can kill it.
Treasure cache method: activate map bottles, sail to waypoints, dig caches near the Parrot for dual affinity and loot. This method is the most efficient overall because it advances your economy simultaneously.
Step 3: Complete Taming
When affinity reaches completion, finish taming through the standard prompt. Use a Bonding Feather if available. Name your Parrot and set it to shoulder pet mode.
Treasure Tracker activates immediately on your shoulder. Walk through your harbor base, sail coastlines, and explore the Genesis ocean to experience detection alerts for valuable nearby entities.
Pair with Tidepup on your other shoulder for the optimal dual-companion setup — healing plus treasure tracking.
After Taming
Integrate Parrot into your treasure farming routine. Treasure Tracker pinpoints dig locations and identifies high-value targets. Parrot transforms treasure hunting from random searching into targeted extraction.
Use Parrot for PvP scouting — ship detection alerts warn of enemy vessels before they spot you. Tribal Sloop scouts should always carry Parrot during fleet operations.
Breed Parrots using Parrot Eggs for improved Treasure Tracker range across generations. Invest in breeding infrastructure at your harbor for long-term detection optimization.
Higher-level Parrots detect targets at greater range, making them increasingly valuable as your treasure farming operation scales into advanced map tiers and PvP scouting roles.
