How to Use the Ship Skill Tree
How to use the Tides of Fortune Ship Skill Tree — earn milestone points, invest in Piracy, Merchant, and Luxury, unlock active abilities, and plan builds.
Accessing the Skill Tree
Open the Ship Skill Tree through the vessel management interface while sailing or at the Shipyard while docked. The interface displays three branches — Piracy, Merchant, and Luxury — each with rows of nodes representing passive bonuses.
Available points display at the top of the interface. Points are earned exclusively through Genesis Part 1 Milestone completion. No other source provides Ship Skill points at launch.
Before spending any points, open the Ship Skill Planner and model your intended build. Respec options are limited — every point allocation should be deliberate.
Step 1: Earn Skill Points
Complete Genesis Ascended Part 1 Milestones to earn points. Prioritize milestones with high point rewards and overlap objectives with your daily activities. See milestone guide for efficient ordering.
Naval milestones — ship construction, treasure completion, creature taming — award the most relevant points for Tides of Fortune builds. Focus on these after completing introductory Genesis milestones.
Track your point total against build requirements. Completing one full tree row typically requires most of your early milestone points. Plan which row to complete first based on playstyle.
Step 2: Choose Your Primary Tree
Piracy for combat: cannon damage, maneuverability, boarding bonuses. Choose if your primary activity is PvP, raiding, or combat-oriented PvE.
Merchant for trade: cargo capacity, Market efficiency, trade profits. Choose if you prioritize resource accumulation, trade economics, or supply logistics.
Luxury for exploration: crew comfort, voyage endurance, cosmetic utility. Choose if you spend long hours exploring the Genesis ocean or want quality-of-life improvements.
Most players choose Piracy or Merchant first. Luxury works well as a secondary investment. See best builds for specific allocation recommendations.
Step 3: Invest Points
Click nodes in order along a row to invest points. Each node requires one point and provides its listed passive bonus immediately. You must fill earlier nodes in a row before accessing later ones — sequential investment, not free selection.
Complete an entire row to unlock that tree's active ability. This is your first major milestone in skill progression. The active ability provides a powerful gameplay boost worth prioritizing.
After completing one row, either push for a second row in the same tree or begin investing in a secondary tree for hybrid benefits.
Step 4: Activate and Optimize
Use active abilities during gameplay through platform-specific controls. Learn your activation key and practice timing during PvE before PvP reliance. Abilities have cooldowns — save them for decisive moments.
Revisit the Ship Skill Planner after each milestone completion to evaluate whether your build plan needs adjustment. Community meta evolves with balance patches — stay informed through skill tree guides.
Coordinate skill investments with ship class and customization. Piracy points on a combat Sloop, Merchant points on a cargo Brigantine, Luxury points on an exploration flagship. Align all three layers for maximum effectiveness.
