Ship Skill Planner Tool

Interactive Tides of Fortune Ship Skill Planner — plan Piracy, Merchant, and Luxury builds, track available points, and unlock active abilities before spending milestone points.

What Is the Ship Skill Planner?

The Ship Skill Planner is an interactive tool for theorycrafting your Tides of Fortune Ship Skill Tree builds before spending milestone-earned points in-game. Plan investments across Piracy, Merchant, and Luxury trees, track remaining available points, and verify row completion for active ability unlocks.

Respec options in ARK are limited at launch, making pre-planning essential. Every point spent in-game is effectively permanent until future patches add respec mechanics. The planner prevents costly mistakes by letting you experiment freely before committing.

The planner stores your configuration in browser local storage — no account required, no data sent to servers. Your build persists between visits until you clear browser data or click Reset All.

How to Use the Planner

Select nodes in any tree by clicking them in order along a row. Each node costs one point from your available total. The planner displays remaining points, active investments per tree, and row completion status. Completed rows highlight the unlocked active ability.

Set your available points to match your current milestone progress. New players start with 0 points and increase the total as they complete Genesis milestones. Update the point total each time you earn new points in-game.

Use Reset All to clear your plan and start fresh. This does not affect your in-game skill tree — only the planner's local configuration.

Planning Effective Builds

Start by choosing a primary tree based on playstyle. Piracy for combat, Merchant for trade, Luxury for exploration. Allocate enough points to complete one full row for the active ability before diversifying into secondary trees.

Cross-reference your plan with best build recommendations for proven configurations. Community-tested builds reflect the current meta — deviating is fine, but understand what you are trading away.

Consider your ship class when planning. Combat Sloop builds emphasize Piracy speed and damage nodes. Cargo Brigantine builds emphasize Merchant capacity nodes. Mobile base builds emphasize Luxury endurance nodes.

Row Completion and Active Abilities

The planner tracks row completion visually. Fill every node in a horizontal row to unlock that tree's active ability. The planner displays "Active Ability Unlocked" when a row is complete. Partial rows provide passive bonuses only — the ability requires full row investment.

Most optimal builds target one row completion first, then distribute remaining points across secondary trees. The planner helps you visualize whether you have enough total points for this strategy.

If available points are insufficient for a full row plus secondary investments, prioritize the row completion. The active ability provides more combat, trade, or utility value than scattered partial investments across multiple trees.

Integrating with Gameplay

After finalizing your plan, implement it in-game through the Ship Skill Tree interface accessible while sailing or at the Shipyard. Follow your planner node-by-node to ensure accurate execution.

Update the planner as you earn more points and as balance patches change node values. After major ARK patches, verify that your planned build still reflects current game balance before investing new points.

Share your planned builds with tribe members to coordinate fleet specialization. One captain plans Piracy, another Merchant, a third Luxury — the planner makes coordination discussions concrete and visual.
